General rule for regular verbs: Verb + ed

Watch => Watched

Verbs ending with "e" -> just add a "d"
· ex: love->loved
Verbs ending with a "c" -> simple past in "ck"
· ex: panic->panicked
Verbs ending with "y" (after a consonant) -> "y" becomes "i"
· ex: carry->carried,
· but obey->obeyed
The final consonant is dobled when :
The verb contains a syllable and ends with a brief vowel+consonant
ex: stop->stopped

the basics of the Simple Past:

marty.GIF1 - The affirmative with regular verbs.
For example: Marty traveled to New York with her daughter.
2 - The affirmative with irregular verbs.
For example: Marty brought Ashley to New York.

3 - The interrogative (questions).
For example: Did Marty travel to New York with her daughter?
Did Marty bring Ashley to New York?

4 - The negative.
For example: Marty didn't travel to New York with her daughter.
Marty didn't bring Ashley to New York.

Click here for an example of a regular verb in the past. The basic form of the verb is "watch". Yesterday (in the past) Tony the football games. "Watch" is a basic regular verb. Simply add "ed" at the end.
